DUMAGUETE CITY, Feb. 10 (PIA) Representatives of various sectors in Negros Oriental are pushing for the heightened awareness on the government’s policy against catcalling, sexual comments, and other forms of sexual harassment committed in public spaces and its corresponding penalties.
This was the highlight of the public consultation for the proposed provincial ordinance in view of the “Bawal Bastos” Law held yesterday at the Provincial Convention Hotel, this city.
Republic Act (RA) 11313, which carries the title “Safe Spaces Act,” categorizes the said acts as a form of Gender-Based Sexual Harassment (GBSH) in public spaces.
Provincial Commission on Women (PCW) Vice Chairperson Phoebe Tan said the law widens the scope of the anti-sexual harassment law.
