Enabling works for a multi-million pound flood alleviation scheme in Littleborough which aims to protect around 1,000 homes are set to get underway in the coming weeks.
The first phase of the scheme involves the construction of a storage reservoir at Gale, just off Todmorden Road, and a programme of measures to improve water flow and flood defences along the River Roch and its tributaries. These measures should improve flood protection for 1,000 residential properties and 200 local businesses.

A multi-million pound overhaul has been completed at Bolton train station. More than £2 million has been spent on a major renovation at Bolton station over more than a year, improving the facility for customers, staff and the wider community. New signage and seating have been fitted at the station, with toilets and waiting rooms refurbished and pigeon netting fitted to aid cleanliness. The large rooms on platforms four and five, which date back to the early 1900s, have been restored to their former glory and is set to be used for community and educational projects as well as retail facilities.

Plans to transform Carlisle Railway Station and its surrounds look set to take a major step forward after Government gave the green light to funding for the project.
Cumbria County Councilâs Cabinet have today welcomed confirmation of £20m funding through the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal after the business case for the project secured Government support.
Release of the Government funding is subject to a number of funding conditions being met.
Cabinet has now agreed to enter the funding agreement with the associated conditions that will see the County Council deliver this ambitious project.
