Killeen police using fleet of drones to solve & prevent crime

With drone technology getting better every day, it’s no surprise that law enforcement is reaping the benefits and the Killeen Police Department is no exception.

KPD now has two assistant chiefs of police for the first time since 2017

The Killeen Police Department has named a second assistant chief of police for the first since 2017 in line with recent changes within the department. Alex Gearhart was named to the second assistant position by KPD Chief Charles Kimble on Monday, according to the department’s Facebook page. Gearhart previously held the rank of commander for the department. In April, longtime assistant chief of police, Margaret Young, retired after 30 years of service. In May, her replacement, Jeff Donohue was named to the position by Kimble. However, that would not be the end of changes within the department. In June, the police department announced a list of changes to improve transparency and other aspects of the department in response to national outcries for police reform after George Floyd’s death by police in Minnesota.

Police: Man killed in Killeen motorcycle wreck

The Killeen Police Department is investigating a single vehicle motorcycle accident which claimed a man’s life. James Allen Davis Jr., 55, has succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in the Sunday crash on Lake Road, KPD announced in a news release on Wednesday. KPD officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of Lake Road in reference to a single vehicle motorcycle crash. The motorcycle, with a single rider identified as Davis, was westbound on Lake Road at a high rate of speed when the rider lost control and struck the curb on the north side of the road. “This collision separated the rider from the motorcycle, ejecting him,” KPD Commander Ronnie Supak said in the release. “The rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.”

No arrests have been made connected to a shooting near Killeen Mall

The Killeen Police Department has not made any arrests after a shooting took place at a gas station near the Killeen Mall earlier this month. Commander Ronnie Supak with KPD said the shooting that included three males and resulted in the injury of a woman caught in the crossfire, took place at a convenience store in the 2100 block of South W.S. Young Drive on Dec. 6. Supak said that detectives are still investigating the incident and information will be released as it becomes available.
