Lubbock County swears in elected officials

Lubbock County s newly elected and re-elected officials have taken their oaths of office, in a ceremony Friday morning. Judge Phillip Hays now presides over the 99th District Court. Retiring District Jude Bill Sowder administered the oath. It s very humbling to understand and know the voters of Lubbock County have spoken and have decided that i m the person they want to be the judge in the 99th District Court, Judge Hays said. I hope to give anyone that comes in their day in court, their opportunity to be heard, and to listen and rule fairly.   Terrence Kovar was sworn in as county commissioner for precinct 1. He replaces Bill McCay, who retired after 16 years.

County to offer new location for license renewal

It will provide Class C license and ID card renewals. You have to set an appointment through the DPS website or at the kiosk inside. Commissioner Jason Corley says it will be a more convenient way to complete your renewal. You ll be able to go online, schedule your appointment, and then pull up out front at your appointed time, come on in, get your license renewed and go on about your day, Corley said. The Commissioner s Court approved a $5 convenience fee to offset costs. Corley says this is going toward equipment, training, remodeling and salary for the employee. My wife has spent four hours waiting to get her license renewed at the DPS office. I would gladly pay $20, just to be able to get in and out, schedule your appointment, come in get that license renewed and get on with your day, Corley said.
