For the first time since the pandemic, the Dietrich hosted not only one, but two special programs last weekend, and you turned out for them. The Science on Screen free movie event, the showing of the classic movie “Jaws,” brought us fans from as far away as Bloomsburg. Everyone has a mental image of the attempt to capture the killer beast, leaving the viewer with a fear of sharks.

(KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish School Board has new reasons to celebrate after the state recently announced nominees for Louisiana Principal of the Year. The latest news comes full circle for long-time educator and Washington Marion Principal Ronnie Harvey Jr. Being an educator, undoubtedly, comes with its own set of challenges, and there’s none quite like what local educators have seen over this past school year. However, it’s a test that Ronnie Harvey Jr. has undoubtedly rose to in his short time as principal at Washington Marion High School.

Dietrich fights through shutdown

Then the state shut it all down. Gov. Tom Wolf ordered the closing of movie theaters across Pennsylvania through Jan. 4 as part of the latest round of mitigation efforts to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, canceling the Dietrich’s holiday events. But, despite the bad news, Executive Director Erica Rogler was overwhelmed by the community support the theater has been receiving. “Although we were saddened and frustrated by the closure, our spirits lifted when we saw the community response,” Rogler said. “We were encouraged because of the public’s willingness to help in any way that they could.” The theater plans to fully reopen on Jan. 4 or when restrictions are lifted.
