The honour of becoming the first winner of the 96FM/C013 GAA Sports Star of the month award for 2023 in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel, goes to Ballygiblin hurler Shane Beston.
In January of this year Ballygiblin narrowly lost the Al-Ireland Junior Hurling final; now they stand just 60 minutes away from another trip to Croke Park and a tilt at the title again.
Time was when the first Sunday in December in Mallow was the focal point for the AIB Munster Junior Hurling and Football Finals and invariably there would be Cork involvement in both.
It may very well be the second last weekend of November but that does not curtail the action with five big hurling games down for decision; 2 county finals and 3 Munster club semi-finals with 3 Cork teams bidding to extend their season.
After the excitement of the last few weekends, it is set to be much calmer this weekend with just a couple of games coming up in junior hurling and camogie. In hurling, Nemo Rangers will switch codes while Ballygiblin will begin the defence of their Munst.
