Christopher Hunnisett: Killer loses bid to overturn ruling

A KILLER who bludgeoned a lover to death after wrongly believing he was a paedophile has lost a Court of Appeal bid to have the murder conviction overturned. Christopher Hunnisett strangled Peter Bick and hit him over the head repeatedly with a hammer in January 2011, before telling police the killing was “part of a mission to hunt down paedophiles”. Hunnisett, 37, who now identifies as a woman and is called Crystal, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 18 years after being convicted of Mr Bick’s murder in May 2012 following a trial at Lewes Crown Court. Her case was referred to the Court of Appeal by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) which investigates possible miscarriages of justice.

Christopher Hunnisett bludgeoned Peter Bick with a hammer and strangled him with a shoelace, just months after being released from prison over another killing. He was branded an “extremely dangerous man” when he was convicted of murdering Mr Bick in 2012 and sentenced to life in prison. Court of Appeal judges were asked to review the conviction and consider if Hunnisett was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the attack.

Christopher Hunnisett, 37, who now identifies as a woman called Crystal, killed Peter Bick, of Bexhill, in 2011. Three judges were asked to consider whether new evidence that Hunnisett had a psychotic illness undermined the safety of the conviction. But on Thursday they dismissed the appeal, saying there was no proper basis to admit the fresh evidence . Hunnisett handed herself in at Hastings police station on 11 January 2011, hours after killing 57-year-old supermarket worker Mr Bick.

It was after the then 28-year-old smashed the supermarket worker Mr Bick over the head with a hammer and strangled him with a shoelace. Hunnisett, who, it is understood, now identifies as a woman, was cleared of a separate murder in 2001 after a retrial revealed that 81-year-old vicar Rev Ronald Glazebrook had sexually abused him. Four months after his release Hunnisett created a “hit list” to rid the world of paedophiles, and made Mr Bick his top target. That was despite there being “not a shred of evidence” that Mr Bick was a paedophile. Mr Bick had instead separated from his partner and used social media and dating sites to meet young men.
