The death of a Calgary woman who was run over by a fully loaded U-Haul being driven by her husband could have been an accident, the man’s lawyer told his murder trial on Thursday.
Defence counsel Kim Ross said the evidence against his client, Ronald Candaele, was as consistent with an unintentional act as it was the accused committed a cold-blooded murder.

In final submissions before Justice Blair Nixon, Ross said the physical evidence didn’t fit with Crown prosecutor Hyatt Mograbee’s assertion that Candaele ran down his new bride, Melissa Rae Blommaert, before leaving her on a Bowness street to die.
