Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 13) – The Integrated Bar of the Philippines called on government authorities to investigate the viral letter from the Calbayog City, Samar police requesting for a list of names of lawyers representing communist terrorists.
The IBP said top Philippine National Police officials assured them that there was no directive to request for a list, but the regional trial court confirmed receiving the letter Friday afternoon. We ask all concerned government authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter, exact accountability, and more importantly, promote state responsibility to ensure that lawyers can do their job without threats, harassment, intimidation, or retribution, said IBP President Domingo Cayosa in a statement.

Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Partylist Rep. Jericho Nograles on Friday, March 12, added his voice to the growing number of critics of the Philippine National Police leadership’s warning against couples engaged in public display affection (PDA).
Instead of interfering in personal relationships, the PNP must concentrate in trying to save its image which is “at all-time low” because of the series of scandals involving its personnel, said Nograles.
Nograles, vice chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, urged the PNP to cleanse its ranks of scalawags and misfits.
The ambush-killing of Mayor Ronald Aquino of Calbayog City and the shootout between PNP operatives and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority Quezon City are just two of the recent incidents that placed the police under a shroud of suspicion.
