prosecutor in the 1970s, i remember almost all the cases had an interstate commerce nexus, it wasn t the theft of an automobile that you prosecuted. it was interstate so a lot of that is now that we have forgotten that distinction, limitation on federal power. we have. and a lot of what i m talking about happens in the environment an natural resource division. there s a lot of litigation out there. i see i am out of time. let me make a suggestion before i introduce senator ronal. she s been off two years, to make efficient use of our time, when she s done, it would be senator kennedy s turn but you probably have to go vote so if there s somebody back here that can start the second round do it. and then we ll call on senator kennedy to finish the first
from the intersection. how did this happen? reporter: that is a really good question right now. this is bizarre. the police are investing this. let me show you what we have seen. if you look into the canal you see the piece of white metal in the water near the bridge? that we believe is the back of a truck that went into the canal around 9:00 this evening. how it got there we don t know. there is a road there, a dirt path if you will. i think that is the capital crescent trail which starts down in georgetown. we are at fox hall and canal road. so it seems as though the vehicle may have entered somewhere down near georgetown and come down the road through the water here and back on to the road and somehow ended up in the water. look at video that we shot earlier. this is the gentleman we believe who was driving this truck being questioned by the park police trying to figure out what happened here and how that truck ended up in the water. while that investigation is happening
neil: last night on fox business i simply asked hey, say it isn t so, joe, say they got it ronal, that i got it wrong, that my friend of nearly three decades hasn t died and the wall street icon expect trade the life for something else. but he did. joe battapaglia is dead. you may not know the name but i bet you know the name. he s familiar face in bull markets and bear markets he s always popping up just explaining the market. a bull when folks were bearish. bear when folks were bullish. a rock in an industry where personnel skills are rocky. joe was none of that. trite to call him a giant but he was physically imposing. i often told him joe, i like having you on the set with me
2011 and they spent 16 years in prison for an $11 armed robbery but the story of these two sisters gets even more unusual when you hear what they have to do now that their sentences have been suspended. wolf blitzer s off today. i m suzanne malveaux and you re in t the situation roomin the well, at the close of a dismal year for out-of-work americans, there is some new hope now to cling to. the number of people filing for first-time unemployment benefits fell to a two-year low that happened last week. poppy harlow of c cnnmoney.com is here with the numbers. how do you break it down? it is a very bright spot in the dismal job market and what we have seen over the past three years. take a look at the numbers that came in, suzanne, actually 388,000 unemployment claims for last week. economists expected a much, much worse number. this is significant because this is the first time since july of 2008 that that number fell below 400,000. 400,000 is what we have seen for a l
who tell me that they hate taking unemployment benefits but that they would have lost their homes without it. unemployment benefits yield $2 in demand for every $1 spent, according to a new report from the department of labor. this is a very effective way to stimulate our economy and create jobs. the same holds for the payroll tax holiday that s included in this package, it s going to put real dollars in the hands of millions of americans, dollars that they re going to spend. i strongly support extending the expanded earned income tax credit which helps about 6.5 million working parents. i m glad this legislation includes the american opportunity tax credit, making college tuition more affordable for 8 million students. this bill also extends the renewable energy grant program, the r&d tax credit, the ethanol and biodiesel tax credits, all provisions that i strongly support. voting no on this legislation would be voting no on all of these vital programs. the economists ar
