HUDSON, Fla. â Pasco County banned the installation of boat lift covers in 2010, saying they wanted to protect waterfront property ownersâ views and prevent navigation hazards.
But the I-Team has learned that rule has not been enforced and hundreds of unpermitted covers have been installed.
Sherene and Barkley Brown bought a 30-foot boat named âGone Gulfingâ after moving into a Hudson canal-side home in 2014.
âIt has a cabin. It has a bathroom. Itâs got a kitchen,â Sherene Brown said.
After nearly 55 years in the business, master jeweler Ron Oakley is retiring, bidding farewell alongside his beloved Lakeland store, Oakley Jewelers.
Oakley said his father opened the store in 1947. He handed the keys to Oakley in the 1980s, though Oakley had been sizing rings for his dad s business since he was 13. They didn t have child labor laws when I started, Oakley said, laughing.
Oakley, 67, said he had been contemplating retirement for some time. Business was already slow because of COVID-19 when one of his longtime employees, Matt Claville, said he was moving to Georgia. Oakley decided that while he could keep his business alive, it was time for him to rest.

Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco was once asked under oath how he had landed two high-level posts in state government.
âIt was the connections that I had made,â he said bluntly.
âI mean, you didn t have to like go and interview along with a hundred other people to get the job or anything?â an attorney pressed.
âNo, maâam,â he said.
Later that month, he told a reporter: âIâm very blessed to have friends that are in high offices.â
Today, Nocco himself is in a high place. A force in local GOP politics, he has twice been elected sheriff without opposition â something that hadnât happened in Pasco County since World War II. His wife is one of the stateâs most prominent Republican fundraisers. Their ties have reached the highest levels of government, including President Donald Trumpâs administration.
