At the request of the county engineer’s office, the Ottawa County commissioners have extended the date they had set to complete the vacating of Otto Pfeiffer Ditch. Property owners along the ditch were issued notices Aug. 15 of the commissioners’ decision.
The benefits of modifying the shape of a drainage ditch to slow water flow and reduce downstream run-off were touted last week when Gov. Mike DeWine and Dorothy Pelanda, director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, visited Northwest Ohio.
The Ottawa County engineer has until Aug. 12 to file the required paperwork for vacating the Otto Pfeiffer Ditch in Carroll Township. The county commissioners, after holding a hearing to consider a petition to vacate the ditch, unanimously approved a resolution in favor of the petitioners.
The first step in the process to vacate a ditch in Ottawa County is scheduled for April 5 in the county court house where the county commissioners and county engineer will hold what is called a viewing of the petition to vacate the ditch.
