A few of the 17-year cicadas emerged from the ground this week in southern Indiana, and it may be just days before the so-called Brood X pops out and makes a racket in Michiana.
But, here at the northern edge of their range across the Midwest and East, Brood Xâs loud buzzing and red eyes will likely make isolated and spotty appearances.
You may wonder where they are.
In St. Joseph Countyâs far northeast corner, Connie Stone wonât wonder. Sheâs lived among prime cicada habitat â trees â for at least two of the prior emergences.
âI donât like to go outside when theyâre here, theyâre so bothersome,â she said. âThey swarm and you canât get away from them.â
Cicadas will soon pop out in Michiana But you may not see too many of them southbendtribune.com - get the latest breaking news, showbiz & celebrity photos, sport news & rumours, viral videos and top stories from southbendtribune.com Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday newspapers.
