Potholes show up fairly suddenly toward the end of every winter season, but this year was especially quick, Gano said. February brought 11 days of subzero temperatures the most since 1958, according to the National Weather Service but finished with highs in the mid-40s.
As the city logs reports, public works crews are out in full force and usually respond to a report within 48 hours, the city said in a news release. They patch the holes with cold mix asphalt, which holds for a few days or a few weeks at best, as a stopgap until warm temperatures stick and allow for hot asphalt to be poured, Gano said.
