Erie County Communtiy Collegek: NAACP, others push for it to be downtown

As one oft-discussed location for the Erie County Community College falls out of consideration, a group of local supporters on Monday rallied for the new school to be located in downtown Erie.  The Erie County Community College Board of Trustees recently declined to bid on Edinboro University of Pennsylvania s Porreco College campus in Millcreek Township after asking EUP officials to extend the deadline for offers on the property. A spokeswoman for Edinboro University told the Erie Times-News that a purchase agreement has been signed for the Porreco property, but that the buyer won t be disclosed until the end of June.

Erie County Community College sees enrollment trends as challenge, opportunity

It will become the first state-chartered community college in 27 years when it opens in the fall, at the earliest, and one of the first in the nation in the last decade. The officials charged with building the two-year Erie County Community College say they are at an advantage because they have the lessons from other institutions to learn from and will be better positioned to create a school geared for the future. But they re also working in challenging times when postsecondary enrollment at both four-year institutions and community colleges has been on a downward trajectory. These declines have only worsened with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Judith Gay honored to play role in formation of Erie County Community College

We re very, very lucky to have her, DiNicola said Thursday morning. Gay, the vice president for strategic initiatives and chief of staff for the Community College of Philadelphia, will serve as interim president until the board can conclude its search for a permanent president. Today we take an important step in meeting the high expectations of our local leaders and our community, DiNicola said during a video conference with community college board members, Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and the media Thursday. Our board discerned rather early on that if we are to succeed we must draw upon the best minds that the community college movement in the United States can provide.

Erie County Community College hires Judith Gay as interim president

The Erie County Community College has its first president even if her tenure might be temporary. Judith Gay, vice president for strategic initiatives and chief of staff for the Community College of Philadelphia, was named interim president for the new college by a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees Wednesday night. Gay s first day on the job will be Feb. 1. She previously served as vice president of academic affairs and interim president at the Community College of Philadelphia. Prior to her time there, she worked as a division chair for the Montgomery County Community College, which is also part of the commonwealth s system of public community colleges.
