minister. for more on the situation on the ground, we re joined now over the phone by nbc s ron allen in cairo. ron, what s the temperature today on the streets in cairo? reporter: mike, it s still fairly calm here at the moment because many people are observing friday prayer in the mosques, and that should end in about a half hour s time or so. and then many more people will start streaming toward the central square. right now there are already perhaps several hundred thousand people there, and the initial reports say that the mood is sort of relaxed but tense. the concern is that the protesters today have said that they want to try and march through the city towards the government palace and towards other sites. if that happens, that would seriously escalate the situation perhaps. right now the military seems to be seems to have a good grip what s going on down there. they surrounded the central
