during 2009-10, that the disaster would be for the health care, for the democrats. you can t take something and shove it down the country s throat. 72% of the people in the gallup poll today believe the mandates are unconstitutional, including democrats. the question is, the republicans have abandoned the use of that issue. gregg: doug, i mean, as unpopular, according to this study that obamacare is, if republicans nominate the creator of romneycare, is that political suicide? or is romney s explainable pallettable? i think pat s right. this is the issue. the problem is that the republicans haven t positioned themselves to talk about the future of health care and how they would fix it. if mitt romney has to defend the past or explain the s in a weakness. gregg: all the negativity that the three of us feel about the race, i would have to say this, it is so fluid, as bad as romney looks to many people fhe
divisions. the party would, of course, be stronger. i am not sure that i agree with people who say that a bloody, bruising primary is good for november. i think it s good to have a choice. i don t think it s good when we nominate somebody because it s their turn. i think it s good when we nominate somebody because their values aline with our values. i wish we could see a spirited contest between somebody who has taken positions that people in alabama wouldn t be comfortable with somebody who was prochoice, they wouldn t be comfortable with somebody who proposed romneycare. those are not things that people in alabama can embrace. right now, the field is divided and it s difficult for alabama to coalesce. you have native son, newt gingrich and rick santorum who, clearly speaks a language that tea party conservatives in alabama understand. and i might add, the tea party s want a new movement in alabama. the tea party movement may have had other nairjs but the tea
language i used on that. i am the guy talking about manufacturing jobs and went to steubenville, ohio. i wasn t in boston. i wasn t in atlanta. i was in the heart of blue-collar america, talking about the jobs and the tunes for those river towns and the mill towns in america. you know, that s the message i have been out there with. i have been talking about freedom and the president with obamacare and the really the fact that governor romney now not only has and did a bad job in massachusetts by imposing obamacare excuse me, romneycare, the model for obamacare. but we now found out that he was an advocate at heart of the time when the debate was going on, he was advocating for pretty much what president obama put into place and then told the american public that he wasn t doing that. you know, i think we need someone who is willing to be honest about what you believe in.

florida and virginia and he has won in the midwest. he has won heavily in the west. so he has a message that s resonating. the attacks on romneycare have fallen flat. the fact of the matter is he had a pro free enterprise health care program in massachusetts that the people of massachusetts and republicans in massachusetts clearly approve of. he had a huge victory tonight. he is going to take every delegate from the state of massachusetts, his home state. so, you know, in the general election, we need a republican candidate that can stand up to barack obama that, can talk about health care that, can talk but, robert, what about the southern states? you know, rick drick well tonight, as well in the southern states. what do you expect what can mitt romney do to really get those voters to believe in him and his plan, especially with the vanish issues that face with the issues that face them?
