Felt about the 2016 election. I was not optimistic about trumps chances or really any republican chances against Hillary Clinton. My coauthor felt differently and he predicted that trump would not only win the republican nomination but would go on to win the presidency. He did that on the basis of data that he was looking at, particularly the large number of democrats in key counties and in places like northeastern ohio who are switching their Party Affiliation and one of the reasons they were doing that as they had watched the first couple president ial debates and they realize trump was speaking about issues that many of these rust belt voters cared about, trade and immigration. Bernie sanders was talking about the issues also which is one of the reasons why he did so wellin the current primaries, but for many of the voters in the rust belt and other swing counties across america, trump was where the action was.
