weak moments. romney one. the governor hectored the president over his energy policy. in the last four years you cut permits and licenses on federal land and federal waters in half. not true, governor romney. how much did you cut them by then. not true. how much did you cut them by. we produced more oil. how much did you cut deficits on federal land and governor waters. governor romney here is what we did. there were a bunch of oil companies. i had a question was and how much did you cut them by. you wanted me to answer. i m happy to ain t question. bill: the problem with that sequence is that romney did not look presidential. he looked like a cable news analyst. he should have simply presented the facts and let the chips fall. now, the president looked bad trying to answer romney s question about why gas prices have more than doubled on his watch. he said when i took office the price of gasoline was 1.80, 1.86. why is that? because the economy was on the
remarks about the 47% in tomorrow night s debate. can we expect to really push him him to push romney for an answer on that and not simply to claim, well, i didn t mean what i said and things come out the wrong way? do we expect the president to really drive that thought home? reporter: well, good afternoon, martin. campaign aides have said we will see a more aggressive president obama tomorrow night, that he needs to be more aggressive, so i think it s fair to make that link that if president obama does, in fact, bring up the 47% comments which according to sources who are close to the campaign they say it is very likely he will do so, that he will vigorously press romney on that point. but martin, it s a really fine line because, remember, this is a town hall debate, so it s not just going to be president obama facing off against mitt romney. there will be audience members involved who will be asking questions, so president obama needs to appear strong without going over the top.
happen to think that s a little bit of an overrated concern because you saw the opposite. you saw, i think, the strategy the last time was to preserve the likability. entirely different problem developed, and that is the guy just looked weak. he looked like he didn t have any fight, didn t have any life in him. i think there s a hope on viewers parts they re going to he see the guy has some blood in his veins. if that means pressing romney harder, if that means raising questions about romney s tax plan that he didn t raise in the first debate very aggressively, i think that s a chance at this point the 47% for example. being too nice just gave romney one of the biggest debate bounces we ve ever seen. maria teresa, in the first debate we heard very little about issues specifically affecting women. now, do you think those issues will get more attention tomorrow night, particularly with romney appearing to do better in the battleground states with women? right. the gallup poll
yield on spanish sovereign debt. back to you. amazing story. karen tso, thank you so much. still ahead this morning on way too early, the as find a way with the season on the line in the ninth inning, the team that came back from 13 games down to win the division comes back again. play-off highlights and incredible highlights ahead in sports. plus, stephen colbert turns to the 7-eleven poll. which giant cup is selling better there, the obama one or the romney one? that clip and a check on weather when way too early comes right back. on several occasions thomas told me of his own sexual prowess. because i was extremely uncomfortable talking about sex with him at all, i told him that
what would you like to see out of governor romney one week from now when he s debating? to take on the rigged game that this entire presidential debate system has become. of course they accepted the current lot of lapdog liberals who will be controlling that venue. he can certainly take notes from his previous debating opponents in the gop primary. newt gingrich and rick santorum, and i certainly don t agree with either of them on anything, on everything, but the way they challenged the basic false premises of these very far from neutral observers was very admirable, something that appeals not just to the base of the republican party and conservatives, but i think especially to those independents. i mean, the first debate will be here in colorado. this is a huge battleground state. particularly when it comes to
