La Trinidad Strawberry Festival canceled anew due to pandemic

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 19) La Trinidad, Benguet Mayor Romeo Salda announced Tuesday that this year’s Strawberry Festival will be canceled anew due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan, the La Trinidad Strawberry Festival Executive Committee unanimously voted against the celebration. However, an indigenous ritual known as ‘Panudsuran,’ and a mass will be held with limited number of participants.
The festival was also canceled last year to follow the Department of Health s advisory against holding crowd-drawing activities amidst the pandemic.
The Strawberry Festival which is usually set for March 9 to 31 has been celebrated since 1981 to showcase the strawberry as the town s main product, and to strengthen ties between locals and visitors.

BAGUIO CITY – For the third time, local chief executives of Baguio City, and La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba and Tublay towns, or BLISTT, have agreed to limit the travel to and in between their respective areas to work and official business, and access to essential goods and services only from January 10 to 24.
The local officials agreed to impose the border restrictions anew to arrest the surge in the incidence of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in their localities.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda, Itogon Mayor Victorio Palangdan, Sablan Mayor Manuel Munar, Tuba Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan and Tublay Mayor Armando Lauro signed the Joint Advisory and gave the green light for the re-imposition of the border restrictions.

January 06, 2021 SOME P28 million will be allotted by La Trinidad in Benguet, as the town hopes to secure the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccine and assured to follow national government guidelines.
Following the initial discussion with the local finance on Tuesday, January 5, Mayor Romeo Salda said they will rely on the government guidelines on the vaccination program, as they cannot directly purchase vaccines from any non-government organizations and companies offering vaccines to them. We will follow guidelines from the national government, indigent, senior citizen, and frontliners to be prioritized for the vaccine, if they want, Salda said.
The local government appropriated P23 million for the Bayanihan 2 submitted and received by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) last December but as of January 5, the DBM has yet to respond.
