Rabobank: Increased transparency, digitation needed to reinforce supply chain against future threats While the food supply chain bent to accommodate weaknesses revealed and intensified by the coronavirus outbreak earlier this year, next time an unexpected threat arises the industry might not be so lucky unless it increases transparency and digitization at each step of the production and retail process, according to Rabobank industry analysts.
“Although the food chain adapted relatively quickly to a COVID world, I would argue the pandemic also shows us that we were a little bit complacent somewhere along the way,” Steve Nicholson, VP, senior analyst for grains & oilseeds at Rabobank, noted during the markets forum at Rabobank’s annual Food & Agribusiness Summit earlier this month.
