A 48-year-old man sustained critical injuries after his wife slashed his throat following an altercation at Bariguda village in Ganjam district on Saturday night. The man, Rohit Patra, was first shifted to the sub-divisional hospital before being referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. He was stated to be out of danger. The woman might have taken the drastic step due to her husband's alcoholism and abusive behavior. The police have not received any complaint regarding the incident.

Four persons have been arrested in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a six-year-old girl in Sambalpur. The abductors were forced to abandon the child due to police patrolling. The accused had planned to demand a ransom of Rs 2 crore from the girl's father, a garment trader in Deogarh.
Police have arrested as many as four men for allegedly kidnapping a businessman’s minor daughter in Deogarh town, an official said on Sunday.
The accused were identified as Himanshu Narang, Deepak Nayak, Rohit Patra and Maheswar Sagadia of Deogarh district.
