When Dr. Patricia Relph and her husband, Dr. Roger D. Gross, moved to Fayetteville from the San Fernando Valley in 1980, they felt like they had really lucked out. Their friends back in California envied them moving to an area where they could buy land and build a home, especially in a state that was less polluted than their own.
