What it all looked like as it was happening. Catherine. . Bad enough to see this fire from a distance. And you could see it for miles. But imagine the people who live and work a short distance away. This is what they were looking at. You begin to understand why people talked about being absolutely terrified. They were watching a giant wall of flames and black smoke. Moving quickly and eating through a giant condo project being built. These are scenes from the height of the fire. This is one big building but with two wings. It basically takes up a huge chunk of a city block. And there was no telling at first whether fire crews could stop it from spreading. Then the building began to collapse. First the scaffolding.
