IAS probes death of drug suspect in Iloilo City

Published June 30, 2021, 8:45 AM The Internal Affairs Service (IAS) is now investigating the death of a suspected drug pusher who was shot dead after a buy-bust in Iloilo City on Tuesday night, June 29. IAS Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo said a motu-proprio investigation is now being conducted part of the protocol to probe police operations that would result in the death of suspects or policemen. Col. Roger James Brillantes, head of the IAS Western Visayas, identified the slain suspect as 29-year old Karl Daniel Bolante. HIs cohort John Dave Mendoza was arrested. Based on the initial result of the investigation, Brillantes said local anti-narcotics operatives conducted a buy-bust after a poseur buyer as able to negotiate for the purchase of illegal drugs against the two suspects.

He identified the policeman as 43-year old Staff Sgt. Jose Digcabo-on Jr. who is now detained at the San Joanquin Municipal Police Station. Brillantes said Digcabo-on was nabbed along with Jolly Sealza, Rogelio Servandil and Paul Panganitan on Sunday in Barangay Torocadan in San Joaquin town when police raided an area where a group of people was reported to be engaged in illegal cockfighting activity.

Col. Roger James Brillantes, director of the IAS-Police Regional Office 6,  told the Manila Bulletin said the conduct of the motu-propopio investigation is part of the protocol to ensure that police forces observe Police Operational Procedures especially on operations that would lead to the injury or death of arrested suspects. IAS Inspector-General Alfegar Triambulo has ordered all IAS offices across the country to make their presence felt in the conduct of investigation on police operations amid allegations of abuses, extra-judicial killings and blatant violations of police operational protocols.

2 Bacolod cops probed for firing guns, taking money in anti-illegal gambling operation

Published January 23, 2021, 3:20 PM The Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police (PNP-IAS) is investigating two policemen from Bacolod City who allegedly fired their guns and seized the money of nine persons arrested in an anti-illegal gambling operation last Tuesday. IAS Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo said the motu proprio investigation is aimed at verifying the report and the claim of the suspects of the possible abuse of authority by the policemen that could warrant filing of administrative cases. Based on the report received by the IAS, an anti-illegal gambling operation was conducted at around 10:30 am. last Jan. 19 in Purok 13, Barangay Mandalagan where at least nine people were arrested.
