On Tuesday, after alerting residents that vaccines were on the way, state officials reneged.
“What are we, chopped liver?” asked David Israel, president of the United Civic Association that oversees the sprawling community off Okeechobee Boulevard and Haverhill Road.
However, in a sign of the chaotic nature of the rollout of the vaccine, Israel had barely stopped fuming about being misled by the state when he received a phone call late Wednesday.
In a 24-hour reversal, state emergency managers said residents of Century Village in West Palm Beach would be receiving a shipment of vaccines after all.
“Very good news indeed,” Israel said, adding that the community will receive 3,000 doses as soon as next Wednesday.
