us your thoughts, your concerns about that potentially being undone. yeah, well, look, this is all part and parcel with roe being overturned. it was a really important case for a whole body of case law which protects people s rights to privacy, to liberty, to things that are not the government s business to be able to regulate. and among the cases that rely on this case law is, yes, the obergefell decision. as roe has been in the balance, this is of course something we all have been really concerned about. justice thomas in his opinion which i should say he was the only one to share, he didn t have any other justices sign on to it, but he did explain in no uncertain terms what is at risk here. and it is important that we be ready. you know, nothing changes for marriages today. nothing changes in terms of the
50 years. my entire adult life, we ve had the threat of roe being overturned. i think a lot of people didn t think that was really going to happen. i m really glad the maryland s general assembly saw this coming, so we could act and be prepared. i m really excited, because our state legislative leaders, the speaker of the house, andrea jones, has a piece of legislation that is going to not just have roe codified in our statute, which we already, have but elevate those principles to the state constitution and the senate president just confirm that he s going to make that a priority next session. whereas maybe we didn t know in the past, maybe we didn t need constitutional level protections because we have that the federal level, when seeing state by state, we have to take action. do you see a slippery slope? i m terrified. as a state legislature, i m terrified with a gut decision coming out the day before this decision, i m terrified all of this work we re doing to shore up reproduc

what happens. but to answer your question, i think nobody should think that this process is done. we should bring those bills up again and again and again. i had a rally earlier on saturday in montpelier, vermont, my state capital. people cannot believe that you have a supreme court and republicans who are prepared to overturn 50 years of precedent. so i think what we should do is on this bill, end the filibuster, do everything that we can to get 50 votes on the strongest possible bill to protect a woman s right to control her own body. before this week about roe being overturned, you didn t use the abortion issue as a reason not to support people. you supported pro-life progressives, if they were progressive on economic issues. a mayor of omaha, i recall a race like that. has your mind changed? i understand that. but has your philosophy changed? is that a litmus test for you for progressives?
