Reporter president obama called in police and firefighters to help him talk republicans oust letting the budget cuts take effect. The automatic cuts known in washington as the sequester kick in march 1st. They were designed to be so severe theyd force lawmakers to reach a budget deal, but they havent yet, and now the president is pushing a shorttemp fix to allow more time to reach a compromise. Theres a smarter way to do this, to reduce our deficits without harming our economy. But congress has to act. Reporter the white house wants a plan with smaller spending cuts and more tax revenues. Republicans say the government is already too bloated and higher taxes should not be part of this equation. Began with the murder of monica kwan and her fiancee in a parked car. Kwans father is a retired l. A. P. D. Captain who represented dorner at the departmental hearing. It didnt take much training to be able to walk up to two unsuspecting people and kill them there. Do you ever wonder or think of what if he had had the opportunity right then, would the story not have been about kwan . Would it have been about the tingirides . We thought about that. I looked at my daughter walking out to the car like, you know, miss kwan, and just the thought of even the possibility of that happening really hit home for us. Very difficult. This experience brought our family very close together. This experience gave me the ability to have more understanding from a very real perspective of what people in this community go through and how they live every day. We could only imagine what Los Angeles Police officers and their families were going through as they were being targeted by a fired cop out for revenge. Well, today we found out as they told their stories. The former officer, christopher dorner, died of a selfinflicted gunshot wound one week tonight, his body recovered from the ruins of a burnedout cabin in San Bernadino where he holed up. Over ten days dorner allegedly killed four people including two Law Enforcement officers. He was prepared to kill more. John miller spoke to two of them. I got the phone call. And the first thing i did was call and get ahold of the kids to find out where they all were.
