Carroll County Judge Sam Barr (center) on Friday, Feb. 5, signs a grant agreement for a $207,121 grant intended to help provide broadband access to rural residents in the county. Joining him at the signing were Chris Claybaker, economic development director for the city of Berryville (left) and Rodney Ballance, president and founder of Berryville Broadband, the company that will make use of the funds provided by the Arkansas Rural Connect Grant program to provide broadband access to more than 1,800 county residents of northern Carroll County, from Berryville to the Missouri border. Ballance said that many of those residents do not have any access to broadband internet at the moment. The limitations for schooling especially now, with the pandemic, working from home and telemedicine have been identified as key factors for this grant money to be approved, Ballance said.
