reporter: the jury deliberating the fate of the three men accused of killing a black man running through a coastal georgia neighborhood last year. the law of the case reporter: the judge placing the controversial case into the hands of one black and 11 white jurors. so, with that, ladies and gentlemen, i ask that you retire to the jury room. reporter: the prosecution getting the final say, retelling how an armed father and son travis and gregory mcmichael aided by roddy bryan eventually cornering and killing him, the final moments caught on video. you can t force someone to defend themselves against you so you claim self-defense. reporter: the men say they were attempting a citizens arrest after arbery was seen several times trespassing inside a home under construction. it turned deadly, they say, when arbery attacked travis mcmichael as mcmichael was pointing a shotgun at arbery. travis saying he shot in self-defense. the prosecution pushing back, saying the men that d
when there s a ketchup for everyone. gillian: welcome back. breaking right now, the attorney for roddy bryan says he plans to file a motion for a new trail after he was found guilty out of six out of nine charges. his attorney says he plans to file the potion for a new trial next week. roddy bryan filmed the killing. three of the charges he were found guilty of are felony matthew stafforder. travis mcmichael was found guilty on all nine counts. his father was guilty eight of nine counts. the jury reached their verdict in 11 hours and 30 minutes. that does it for the story wednesday, november 24. the story goes on. we hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving tomorrow with your
concern that they may not um, they may not carry out their civic duties as as they should and rush through the deliberations. i think they ve you know, they are doing their best to get out of there. we have to remember, this thanksgiving is, you know, the first-big holiday coming out of the pandemic where we can be with friends and family. um, vaccinated and safe. and these jurors are human beings. they want to get back to their lives. they want to have their, you know, um, black friday and cybermonday. i think like bakari said, this is a this is not a very difficult analysis. you know, there is of course, there is extensive instructions. lesser, as to roddy bryan. but there is not the rittenhouse type of, you know, deliberation. and yet, you know, there is this concern about the um this this the belief system of these jurors. and are are they at all struggling? are they looking at this as like the boogieman who invaded this community and these guys were heroes? um,

roddy bryan. many asked if the prosecutors established enough of a causal connection that roddy would be convicted. what i found interesting and the case, jillian, sometimes when you get a verdict back, it can be inconsistent when we use that term or they do jury nullification, which would be yeah, he s guilty of the crime but we don t want to convict him. clearly the jury was not persuaded at all by the deferns attorney s argument that they were defending the community. travis got hit with everything because he was the shooter. last point, before we get to mercedes, felony murder is the prosecutor s ace card. i always love having a felony murder in my pocket.
