Vessel eyes new Rocky Hill site for two-building apartment complex

A New York-based multifamily housing developer is eyeing a new location in Rocky Hill after an earlier application for an apartment building was denied. Vessel RE Holdings LLC submitted a site plan application to the Rocky Hill Planning and Zoning for a two-building development at 125 Henkel Way. An earlier application for a five-story building at 2369 Main St., with 30 one-bedroom units, was denied in April, with commission members citing concerns with traffic flow, lack of sidewalks or greenspace, inadequate parking and electrical grid capabilities.

LongHorn Steakhouse eyes takeover of former Dakota Steakhouse property in Rocky Hill

A new steakhouse could be moving into the former Dakota Steakhouse property on the Silas Deane Highway in Rocky Hill, but it’ll come with a new building and look. The Rocky Hill Planning and Zoning Commission recently approved a beer, wine and liquor permit for RARE Hospitality International, a division of Darden Restaurants Inc., to open a LongHorn Steakhouse at 1489 Silas Deane Highway, the site of a former Dakota Steakhouse. The property is already zoned for restaurants and is in the town’s regional commercial zoning district.

Goodwin University eyes Rocky Hill office building purchase

East Hartford’s Goodwin University is eyeing the purchase of a Rocky Hill office building to open a new early childhood literacy center. The private school has submitted an application to the Rocky Hill Planning and Zoning Commission outlining plans to buy the former Capitol Region Education Council office building at 525 Brook St.  It wants to use the 67,910-square-foot property to open a Goodwin University Magnet Early Childhood Literacy Center that would offer 3- and 4-year-olds a research-based literacy environment, according to the project application. 

Rocky Hill to consider site plan for Ames property redevelopment; 213 apartments eyed in mixed-use project

The Rocky Hill Planning and Zoning Commission on Wednesday is expected to discuss a site plan proposal to redevelop the long-vacant Ames corporate office on Main Street.  This represents the second site plan submitted to the town by Hamden-based developer Belfonti Cos. LLC. The first plan was rejected by the commission about two months ago, but changes have been made to the overall project design, including the addition of more public gathering space, according to Raymond Carpentino, Rocky Hill’s economic development director. 

Deep River Distillers seeks approval to open distillery in Rocky Hill

Vodka maker Deep River Distillers is seeking approval to open a distillery in Rocky Hill, where the company would make its branded Krew Vodka. Deep River Distillers founder and owner Paul Grabek will appear before the Rocky Hill Planning and Zoning Commission May 19 to request a change of use for the Shunpike Business Center at 1275 Cromwell Ave., from office and warehousing use to manufacturing use. Grabek said town officials have been supportive of the plan in preliminary discussions. It s very promising, Grabek said Monday, adding that he s had meetings with Rocky Hill s building inspector and fire marshall among others. The town has been very easy to work with.
