Teachers in Oconee County received their COVID-19 vaccinations on Monday, the first day of educator eligibility in Georgia.
Piedmont Oconee Health Campus vaccinated approximately 750 teachers, bus drivers, custodians, and other staff members on Monday following the announcement that teachers in Georgia could receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Anyone who works in the school system was eligible to receive the vaccine on Monday, not just educators. This includes full-time and part-time employees, substitutes, and student teachers.
Monday was a previously scheduled teacher workday, where students would not be in classes. This allowed the hundreds of teachers and staff to step away from the classrooms to receive their shots.
