Early Saturday, Nov. 19 morning at approximately 1:06 a.m., officers from the 100th PCT responded to a “shots fired” 911 call at Rockaway Freeway and Beach 90th Street. Upon arrival, officers were met by a victim who stated he was exiting the train station when he was approached by a male attempting to rob him
Police said a gray 2011 Dodge ram was speeding down Rockaway Freeway and crashed into a 2018 Nissan Rouge driven by the married couple.
The unidentified driver of the pickup fled the scene, police said, while two passengers of the pickup remained on scene. One was injured while another was taken into custody and charged with obstruction of “governmental administration” and disorderly conduct, police said in a news release.
The married couple were pronounced dead at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.
Novia James, Gibbon s younger, said the crash occurred just blocks from their Far Rockaway home. You leave your house and you never know what could happen, James said. You never see them without each other. Never. They were never apart.
Police said their investigation found that a gray 2011 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on Rockaway Freeway when it struck a blue 2019 Nissan Rouge traveling northbound on Ocean Crest Boulevard.
The operator of the Dodge fled the location on foot in an unknown direction while two other passengers, a 37-year-old male and a 33-year-old male, stayed on the scene.
The 37-year-old male sustained lacerations to the head and was transported to NYC & Health & Hospitals/Jamaica in stable condition and the 33-year-old male was taken into custody and charged with obstruction of governmental administration and disorderly conduct.
