We have coverage of the storm. Maureen naylor is in the south bay where there is heavy rain coming through. We will begin with meteorologist bill martin tracking the conditions. Right now it is raining and it is messy and everybody getting back to work and the rain has been pretty relentless. This morning it was there and this afternoon relentless. You see the warm air coming. Look at the airmass. Warm moisture air in the state. The cooler air getting pushed to the snort and seeing snow in the lower elevations. The purple and pink areas represent freezing precipitation. We are in the foothills. Towards cheeko. 2,000 feet near paradise and above warfield and Feather Falls getting snow and theres an indication how cool the airmass is. Colfax snow and a foot in donner and we got rain. Heavy rain showing up in the fremont area. You can see it down in this area. The heaviest rain will continue to be moving through the south bay. In the next hour or so. The problem at Lake Oroville started last tuesday when a massive hole opened up here in the main spillway. Lets check out video of the hole from last week. It may be hard to tell here. But its 30 feet deep. 200 feet wide. That hole prompted water managers to stop using the main spillway. That meant water in the lake. Swollen from all this winters storms. Started coming over the emergency spillway. The emergency spillway. Built in 1968. Is just dirt and rocks. And yesterday water was coming over the top. And carving small craters in the land below. Which is not paved like the main spillway. The concern is that the dirt and rock at the top of the emergency spillway might collapse. And that would be catasprophic. A 30 foot wall of water would come charging down the hill. Like a tsunami. Some would quickly fill up the the Feather River belo
