REGIONAL Nobles County recorded five new cases of COVID-19 during the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Friday, according to Saturday morning s update from the Minnesota Department of Public Health.
Other new cases of the novel coronavirus in southwest Minnesota during the latest 24-hour period are: Pipestone County, three; Cottonwood, Murray and Rock counties, two each; and Jackson County, one.
Minnesota reported 2,489 new cases of the novel coronavirus during the one-day period. The state’s cumulative total of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases now stands at 434,413 (positive tests and antigen tests), with 412,546 beyond the 10-day isolation period. Thus far, 33,805 Minnesota health care workers have contracted the novel coronavirus.

REGIONAL Nobles County recorded its 45th death due to complications from COVID-19 Monday, according to the latest update provided by the Minnesota Department of Health.
The individual was between the ages of 75 and 79. No other information is available.
During the 24-hour reporting period that ended at 4 p.m. Monday, another 36 deaths were recorded statewide, including 24 individuals who resided in private residences and 12 individuals in long-term care facilities. Thus far, 5,196 Minnesotans have died from the novel coronavirus, including 3,351 individuals residing in long-term care facilities.
Another 988 Minnesotans tested positive for COVID-19 during the 24-hour period, including four residents of Nobles County, two residents of Jackson County and one resident each of Murray and Pipestone counties. No new cases were reported in Cottonwood and Rock counties.

Roscoe “Jigger” Pettengill, 102, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died due to complications of Covid-19 Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at Rock Rapids Health Centre.
Roscoe Robert “Jigger” Pettengill was born March 8, 1918, in Rock Rapids, son of Sylvester “Vet” and Christina (Guyan) Pettengill. He was raised in Rock Rapids and graduated from Wilson High School in 1937. He continued his education at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating, he returned to Rock Rapids where he worked until he joined the U.S. Army in 1941. Once World War II was over, he returned to Rock Rapids and went into partnership with his brother, Leon, and father. They owned Pettengill Lumber Yard and Block Plant.

REGIONAL The number of individuals testing positive for COVID-19 in the area continues to decline, with just two new cases reported in Nobles County during the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Sunday. Meanwhile, Jackson and Murray counties each had one new case and Cottonwood, Pipestone and Rock counties had no new cases, according to this morning’s update from the Minnesota Department of Health.
Statewide, another 1,087 Minnesotans tested positive for the novel coronavirus during the 24-hour period.
Another 13 deaths were also recorded during the one-day reporting period. These included six individuals who resided in private residences and seven individuals in long-term care facilities. The cumulative death total from the novel coronavirus in Minnesota now stands at 5,160, including 3,339 residents of long-term care facilities.
