Phyllis âDianeâ Sloop Porter, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at the home of her son. She was born Nov. 4, 1949 to William Nathan Sloop and Velna Mae Stone Sloop. Diane was a 1967 graduate of North Wilkes High School. She graduated from Artistic Beauty Academy in 1968. She was a Cosmetologist for over 22 years. She started her career working for Super Hair. In 1973, she opened and operated Dianeâs Beauty Shop out of her home. In 1984, she was hired to open and manage the JC Penneyâs Beauty Salon at Wilkes Mall. In 1985, Diane left Cosmetology after the birth of her youngest son. She was also a founding member and President of the Shepherdâs Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She began a new career in farming. For many years, she ran a small family poultry farm, until her health began to decline.
