Basilian Father Albert Cylwicki, who spent 25 years at St. John Fisher College serving in numerous roles, died Feb. 7, 2021. He was 88 years old.
A native of Detroit, Father Cylwicki was ordained June 29, 1960, at St. Basil Church in Toronto after studying at St. Basil’s Seminary. He earned bachelor’s degrees from Assumption University in Windsor, Ontario, and the University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto, as well as a master’s degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Prior to his time at St. John Fisher, he taught math and religion at several Basilian high schools, including Aquinas Institute in Rochester, where he also served on the school’s board of trustees.
The incident, captured on body-camera footage, renewed scrutiny of a department whose officers had placed a hood on Daniel Prude, a Black man, before he died from suffocation.
