A widely-lauded, cross-country tour which has recast early abstract painting with Agnes Pelton as a central – not forgotten – figure, culminates at the Palm Springs Art Museum through September 6th.
Palm Springs Art Museum has a new installation in the lot across from its main campus.
Artist Gonzalo Lebrija s History of Suspended Time (A monument for the impossible) features a car suspended over a pool of liquid, seeming as if it is frozen in time, according to the museum.
The installation is meant to encourage thought about “suspension and the passage of time focusing on precise moments of stillness and impact. said Rochelle Steiner, the museum s chief curator and director of public programs and education.
The museum will present an exhibition titled American Roads in tandem with the installation, according to Steiner. It is a portfolio of photographs that capture our love of and dependence upon cars, while also contemplating the complexity of this country’s major highways and local roads,” Steiner said in a prepared statement.
