Date Time Cancer survivors’ high risk of cardiac failure Mortality among people with cancer who survive at least five years after diagnosis is higher than for the general population, particularly in terms of cardiovascular disease-related mortality, according to research published today in the Medical Journal of Australia. Research led by Flinders University Professor Bogda Koczwara, a medical oncologist and senior staff specialist at the Flinders Medical Centre, analysed South Australian Cancer Registry data for all people diagnosed with cancer during 1990-1999 and alive five years after diagnosis, with follow-up to 31 December 2016. Analysis of 32,646 people with cancer alive five years after diagnosis found:
