bill: good day, everybody, and good morning a judge orders a retrial for an american accused of killing her roommate. while studying in europe. the high court reversing the acquittal of amanda knox in 2011. it could be a whole new story. good morning. i m bill hemmer, here in america s newsroom. jamie in for martha jamie: the doigs coming down. i m in for martha maccallum. the judge ordered her former boyfriend to return and be tried. bill: what is this all about now? amy kellogg is live in london. she lives in washington state now. will she be forced to go back to italy for a retrial, amy? reporter: bill, the reason that this new situation has come about not because the court has come up with reasons for which it thinks that amanda knox is suddenly guilty, there is more evidence, basically the court wants to look at everything all over again. this case has been plagued with so many technical problems from the beginning. amanda knox issued a statement that it was painful
at around 5:00 yesterday evening. an undercover berkeley police officer was in the silver car that you can see there hailing a suspect in the maroon car when officers were on grove way near center street they decided to arrest him at the stop light. officers say the suspect then backed up his vehicle pinning the berkeley officer between the two cars. other officers then surrounded the cars, one armed with an assault rifle. i heard two shots from here. and then i heard two more. so four shots altogether. reporter: now, you can see from the doorjamb on the driver s side several bullet holes indicating where the officer was standing when he opened fire. the pinned officer did have leg and hand injuries. both he and the suspect are expected to live. the berkeley police department says they have been looking for him for some time with a warrant for his arrest but haven t said why they felt the need to pull him over at 5:00 in the middle of rush hour traffic in castro valley. s

the investigation is still underway as we speak. reporter: investigators have set up light to help them collect evidence. it s sandwiched between two unmarked silver police cars. the alameda sheriff s department responded to a shooting here at this intersection. investigators say two berkely police officers were trying to pull over a driver in the red mercury. decided to take that suspect into custody. during that time, the suspect backed his vehicle, which pinned the berkely police officer between the suspect vehicle and the unmarked berkely car. reporter: sergeant nelson says the berkely officer suffered serious injuries to his hand and leg while he was pinned between the vehicles. about an hour ago, this woman approached us and told us the suspect is the father of her daughter and identified him as steven moore. he probably didn t know it was the police at fir. he s not a violent person, so i know he did not try to hurt that officer, and i know they should not have
