THE town is set to make a bid for city status to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year. But councillor Dale Heenan – who has since resigned his cabinet role after a row over the museum and art gallery – said he agreed with those saying the change in status should not be a priority. He wants the bid to be an effort between residents, community groups and enthusiastic councillors. The competition runs until December and it asks for a one-page summary of the town, with no more than eight pages of supporting information.
