Napier City Council will be consulting local businesses, residents, cyclist groups and the wider community about ways to make Carlyle St safer.
One of the most important routes leading to and from the Napier CBD, it carries 10,000 plus vehicles per day and has high parking turnover but is narrow.
Despite a lack of defined cycle paths, it is also the busiest cycling path in Napier with up to 200 cyclists using it daily.

Hi all! As we head into the second month of 2021 (which already feels a little too similar to 2020, right?) I’m taking stock of what the last year has meant for people, and what their expectations are for the year to come.
So what’s that mean?
I’m looking to speak with people who have been intimately impacted by the pandemic, and how they’re trying to move forward. Lost income? Challenges with your mental health? Anything and everything is on the table.
Asking people to disclose their hardship can be difficult. Our struggles are intimate, but, during these times especially, I find that more people can relate to them than you think.

On a one kilometre stretch of Taradale road are 13 temporary speed reduction signs, and not a roadwork in sight.
It s deliberate. Napier City Council, which hasn t permanently changed the speed on the road, says it put them up in March and will keep the signs up for some time yet.
