STOUGHTON, MA After two years as Stoughton s interim town clerk, the Select Board on Monday voted unanimously to officially give Stephanie Carrara the position.
Carrara has served as the interim town clerk since 2019 and has worked in the clerk s office since 2009.
Several Select Board members, including Bob O Regan and Christine Howe, gave Carrara credit for handling the election process during the coronavirus pandemic. Howe said mail-in voting is likely to be a part of Massachusetts elections going forward, so her experience and past success with that are critical.

Stoughton’s first responders received a shot in the arm as well as a morale boost as the first COVID-19 vaccines were administered at the police station beginning on Jan. 11, according to Town Manager Robin Grimm.
“I want to thank the two chiefs – Chief Laracy and Chief McNamara – for setting up schedules for this,” she said, complimenting the fire and police heads, respectively. “This wasn’t as easy as it sounds because we knew there would be the potential for some mild side effects.”
Grimm was able to partner with Sharon in order for both towns to have enough participants to receive the coronavirus vaccine.

Explains Grimm, The deputy chief of the fire department is not like deputy chief of the police. In the fire department, the deputy chief can be number three. It s a union job, with overtime benefits.
Grimm said that the assistant chief s position was negotiated before she arrived, but was never filled. The position evolved in negotiations several years ago, and we agreed to fill it this year, she said. It had already been agreed upon, but it was logistics I had to work on.
