Ledford charged in with embezzlement and tax fraud
Marion Ledford, 66 of Alamogordo, was charged with embezzlement and tax fraud for alleged misuse of money belonging to the Robert W. Hamilton Foundation.
“Taxation and Revenue Department agents stand ready to bring anyone who commits white collar crime in New Mexico to justice,” said New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke.
Ledford was director of the Robert W. Hamilton Foundation which provides scholarships to Otero County high school graduates. According to the U.S. Attorney, Ledford wrote $1,785,300 in checks to himself from the foundation’s accounts and failed to report the additional income on returns from 2011 to 2016, a news release from the New Mexico Department of Taxation and Revenue states.
