University of Mississippi Celebrates Class of 2021

The following local students are candidates for graduation: Kaylee McKenzie Hillhouse, of Houlka, MS, is a candidate for a Bachelor of Arts. Hillhouse is a Allied Health Studies major in the College of Liberal Arts. Breana Nicole McDonald, of Houlka, MS, is a candidate for a Bachelor of Business Administration. McDonald is a Management major in the School of Business Administration. William Perkins Stone, of Houston, MS, is a candidate for a Bachelor of Arts. Stone is a History major in the College of Liberal Arts. Summer Elizabeth McCarver, of Houston, MS, is a candidate for a Master of Arts. McCarver is a Teaching major in the Graduate School.

Robert E. Parker Robert E. Parker, 95, of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at his home.   He was born Dec. 30, 1925 in Chicago, Ill., the son of the late Ray and Frieda (Voltz) Parker.  Mr. Parker was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro for many years, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was past president of the Hillsboro Lions Club, having been a member for 55 years and received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Award. He also served as the Lions Club Eye Chairman and was the manager of their candy store for many years.

Now here’s Sheridan Media’s look back in time, to 100 years ago, by reporter Pat Blair as published in the Sheridan Enterprise newspaper on April 7, 1921. A county highway bond issue of $300,000 will be submitted to Sheridan county voters on May 10 when the entire state will be asked to vote on a proposal to issue $1.8 million in state bonds for highway work. Guy Webb, a patrolman on Sheridan’s police force, was confined to his home on Gladstone street yesterday with the grippe. Willis B. Spear has returned from a trip to his Forty-Mile ranch, where he reports good progress is being made in plowing and seeding.
