Dead up tells what is led up to the us what led up to the deadly confrontation. Reporter thats what officers say they were up against, a suspect shooting at them with an illegal assault rifle. The scene of the officerinvolved shooting in oakland this morning. Many rounds were fired. Its likely close to a full magazine if not full. Reporter 9 00 sunday night, officers began investigating report of a sexual assault. That led them to a suspect in a house on the 3800 block of mlk. The suspect ultimately came out of the front door with a rifle. And immediately began firing upon the officers that were in front of house. Reporter the two officers returned fire striking the suspect. Police say at least 30 shots were exchanged. One of the officers was hit. The suspect and officer were transported to the hospital. The suspect died of his injuries and the officer recently promoted to sergeant and a 14 year veteran is expected to recover. The Police Officer sustained significant gunshot wounds. An

Everybody take a deep breath at one point the suspects car hit a cruiser. The chase went through several streets including van ness, goff and franklin. Its believed all three suspects are now in custody. Well have a live report coming up. The city of rohnert park is investigating whether one of its officers followed the rules when he pulled his gun on an unarmed man. He says he was hooking up his boat outside his house last month when he noticed a Police Vehicle stopped nearby. He started shooting video of the officer and the officer rolled down his window to do the same. Wildfire season. Good afternoon, im maria medina. Hi, everyone. Im frank mallicoat. Anne makovec joins us in the newsroom right now with more go Governor Browns washing. Reporter the rocky fire is 40 contained. But Governor Brown warned that the fire season is just beginning, made worse by Climate Change and he says this fire represents the, quote, new normal. This is a real wakeup call because of the way this fire performed. Its, um, not the way it usually has been, going lots of different directions, moving fast, even without hot winds. Reporter almost 70,000 square miles have burned, portions of highway 16 and 20 are still closed. Some evacuations are being lifted today but firefighters are only beginning to assess the damage. On july 20, this 20acre fire flared in bay point, eight days later a smaller fire, then later a hillside scorched off highway 24.
