i am going to break the number one rule of making news. not a huge amount has happened today, but that in itself is news. it is certainly a change. my feeling on day three of the rishi sunak era is thatjust, the thing is that we re talking about feel much more normal already, like classic politics. and i think they will look far as mission, not accomplished, but the start of the project is how they want it to be, which is, to use the line from michael gove, the new levelling secretary, boring is back. and just thinking of it in news terms, we have spent, those of us here at westminster, running around like mad things for quite a while, and today, i was on the radio briefly this morning but that was it because there has not really been any news here. and it has gone from gale force to the most gentle of breezes. and yet there are still things happening. so, today, the suella braverman reappointment controversy rumbles on. with the opposition parties trying to keep that alive.
He is long gone, as is much of his collection. But not his appetite for art, which is shared by the current owner although his taste is a little different. Contemporary minimalism meets georgian magnificence, with an exhibition of richard longs geometric sculptures which are installed in the house and dotted about the grounds. Its an amazing opportunity to make all these grand works, in this grand, very, very english landscape. Richard long is a landscape artist, but probably not in the way that sir Robert Walpole would have understood. He doesnt paint or sculpt, in the traditional sense. My preference is to use the natural Raw Materials of the world. I suppose ijust ordered these materials into. Thats what humans do, they make order out of natural chaos. His art isnt so much about taming nature, but accentuating its beauty, with circles of Overlapping Flint and long lines of hand picked stone. Ive always used stones, because thats what the world is made of. I can find stones anywhere
