murder, accused of enlisting her brother and son to kill her son to be ex-husband, but he survived and the two are now face-to-face in the courtroom. trace gallagher is following the case. reporter: not only does this case involve allegations of conspiracy and attempted murder and also of insist incest. she wanted him dead so she could collect his life insurance and social security. he was driving near vegas when a car pulled up next to him and opened fire. he was hit in the neck and lived and recognized the vehicle as belonging to his brother-in-law and his girlfriend. the were captured on surveillance in the sports utility vehicle, near where the shooting happened. she wanted me to invite robert to dinner, where she would either shoot him and claim
self-defense or poison him. devised a plan that rick would rick and mike, i guess, would shot robert as he was driving to work, or from work. the defense attorneys claim she is lying because she wants a lighter sentence. gretchen. what about the strange relationship between the defendant and her own son? yeah. prosecutors say that relationship could kind of play a part in the motive here. the father, robert vessey, says which the son is his adopted son but the natural son of amy bessey says they were having an inappropriate relationship and from jail michael bessey sent his mom a note saying that he missed touching her. and a fellow inmate claims that michael bessey told him that he, his mom, and his uncle planned to kill his father and they were shocked that he survived. again, the defense is claiming that the inmate is only testifying so he can strike a deal with the prosecutors and get out of jail early.
0 you said, the fact that they actually did it, they had a number of opportunities. the beginning of this year when they took control for the 113th congress in the senate and back in july of this year they warned they were trying this. both times they headed it off through the gentleman agreements. that s been the tradition in the senate. you get close to this and then you back away. this time that came from out of nowhere. harry reid had set this up. harry reid majority senate leader. set this up with key votes on judicial nominees. or did it come out of nowhere? because could this have been an orchestrated strategy, some people are saying for distraction, from obama care. others are saying so that the president could get something done in his second term because isn t a passive admission that his agenda is not going to go anywhere so at least he can appeal to his political base and get some of the federal judgeships and nominations in place? both of those. actually both of those.
