The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal Announces 2021 Fallen Fire Fighter Medal of Honor Ceremony Date
Springfield, Ill- The Annual Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Firefighter Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony is now set for Friday, September 10th. The Fallen Firefighter Memorial service will be held at the firefighter memorial on the grounds of the Illinois State Capitol beginning at 10 AM. Following the ceremony at the capitol, the Medal of Honor Ceremony will take place at the Bank of Springfield Center. More information about the annual fire truck muster will come at a later date. The OSFM will be following the latest COVID-19 guidance set in the Restore Illinois Plan to help maintain the health and safety of those attending the events.
Truevillian recently marked his 20th anniversary with the Chicago Fire Department. This is a loss to our family, this is a loss to his family, said Chicago Fire Commissioner Richard Ford.
Truevillian was sick for several weeks before his death at the age of 55. Friends remembered him as a devoted husband and father to his four children. His family is devastated by the loss.
COVID restrictions limited the number of people inside to attend the funeral service, so it was streamed online for everyone to watch. Outside the funeral home, Truevillian s ambulance, No. 71, was parked with purple bunting. After the funeral, a long line of police cars with flashing blue lights led the procession to the cemetery.

Chicago Fire Department paramedic Robert Truevillian was remembered Monday as a devoted family man, a zealous Christian and a mentor to many.
“He was extremely proud of us,” Kennedy Truevillian, one of his four children, said during a service at Russo’s Hillside Chapels in Hillside. “He always asked us to send him pictures so he could show his buddies at the firehouse.”
Others remembered how he’d come home from a grueling 24-hour shift then rush off to make it in time to one of his children’s Christmas plays or a school dance.
Truevillian, 55, joined the Chicago Fire Department in 2000 and was assigned to ambulance 71, which operates out of 10458 S. Hoxie Ave. in South Deering.

Ambulance 71 lost its paramedic-in-charge Thursday morning after 55-year-old Robert Truevillian lost his weeks-long battle to COVID-19. Literally I got on my knees to pray that Rob would come thru this, said Dep. Dist. Chief Michael Spencer. It broke my heart this morning, said Asst. Dep. Chief Keith Gray.
Gray knew Truevillian for nearly two decades. The two were former partners. The care that he provided to the citizens of Chicago, I mean, he treated everyone as if it was his family members, Gray said.
Saving lives was a passion, both on and off the job.
