A former U.S. Marine was arrested in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday amidst chaotic rioting at the U.S. Capitol in what the police say was an “unrest-related” charge.
Jay Robert Thaxton, 46, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department for violating curfew at the 1400 block of New York Avenue NW following the storming of the Capitol as Congress attempted to certify presidential election results.
It is not yet clear where Thaxton was stationed while in the Marine Corps or what units he served in; however, multiple public records websites indicate he previously resided in Cherry Point, N.C., and Newport, N.C.
